Abstract:
The 2024 Meteorological Joint Fund (MJF) provides funding in the form of integrated projects and key support projects. Two integrated project applications were received and accepted, and one of them was funded with the direct funding of 10 million yuan; eighty-four key support project applications were received and all were accepted, and twenty-one of them were funded with an average direct funding of 2.6 million yuan per project. Application and review data indicate that: the proportion of cooperative applications between meteorological bureaus and external units in 2024 has further increased to 89%, and the proportion of external units receiving key support project funding has reached 57%; The key support projects of the MJF have a stronger “target-oriented” attribute compared to the key projects in the “Weather and Climate Systems and Sustainable Development” field from the Department of Earth Sciences, with 98% of the project applications being target-oriented to the basic research for technical applications; the number of applications and funded projects in the “Atmospheric Detection Technology and Application” field of the MJF has significantly increased, with the funding rate increasing from 13% in 2023 to 36%, and the number of funded projects increasing to five; 59% of the principal investigators funded by MJF are under 45 years old, and the average age of funded principal investigators is 46 years old.
